Gunmen Attack Checkpoint in Delta State, Security Forces Respond

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a security checkpoint along the East-West Road in Delta State in the early hours of Thursday, prompting a swift response from troops stationed in the area, security sources said.

No fatalities among security personnel have been confirmed, though the state Police Command said it was still assessing the situation and had deployed reinforcements to the area as a precaution.

Residents in nearby communities reported hearing sustained gunfire for several minutes before the attackers withdrew. Normal activity had resumed along the corridor by mid-morning, with additional checkpoints mounted temporarily.
